The DISMAR project (Danube Integrated System for MARking) is an operation of strategic importance aimed at improving navigation on the Danube through modern and sustainable solutions.
The main objective is to enhance and maintain a sustainable and climate resilient transportation network by further developing the Danube waterway infrastructure.
The common Romanian – Bulgarian sector of the Danube River is an important section of the Danube and also, an important sector of the TEN-T Rhine-Danube Core Network Corridor. As an ecological and safe form of transport, the transport on inland waterways is an essential factor for economic growth and competitiveness in the Danube region.
The project will consolidate the quality of water infrastructure and the maintenance of waterways, leading to higher utilization of water transport in the region. The rapid transfer of information on the quality of waterway infrastructure is also essential.
Through collaboration, innovative technologies and careful planning, the project aims to create a safer and more reliable waterway for all users - commercial, transport and tourism companies.
Planned Approach:
1. Systematic Assessment: The project will start with a comprehensive assessment of the current marking system and its limitations.
2. Technology Upgrade: Based on the assessment, the project will introduce advanced technologies for the marking system, including solar-powered lights and GPS-based positioning.
3. Implementation of pilot actions: Based on modern technologies, a new integrated communication system for marking the fairway will be developed and implemented, and relevant pilot activities are planned.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation of the pilot actions: The project will include monitoring and evaluation of system performance. Ongoing feedback will be used to make necessary adjustments and improvements.
The project for improving the marking system along the Danube River introduces a range of new and modern solutions. Its innovation lies in the application of sustainable technologies, the use of GPS-based positioning, and enhanced regional cooperation in marking activities and environmental protection. This combination of approaches makes the project a unique and promising initiative, addressing navigation challenges along the Danube River in an effective and modern way.
