The Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River in partnership with the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev” has started work on a project aimed at managing sediments in the river. The official launch of the project was given at the end of January in Bucharest. During the first meeting of the team, the objectives of the project were outlined and the key stages in its implementation were discussed.
The coordinator of the DANSER project is the National Institute for Research and Development of the Danube Delta (Romania), and 28 organizations from Romania, Croatia, Austria, Ireland, Ukraine, Portugal and Bulgaria are included as partners.
The project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe program and has a duration of 4 years.
The main objective of DANSER is to respond to the need for sustainable sediment management in river basins, focusing on the Danube River - Black Sea system. This will be achieved by demonstrating multidisciplinary, innovative and holistic solutions, as well as by developing a deep understanding of sediment status and cause-effect relationships. This project aims to restore sediment balance, improve sediment flow and quality, and integrate these actions and knowledge with partners from the EU and around the world (existing organisations, digital platforms, events and know-how).
