EAEMDR Improves Visibility on the Danube River with New Floating Navigation Aids

Publish on 20.01.2026

Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River has received 150 new floating navigation signs equipped with AIS system. The delivery was carried out through a joint public procurement procedure with the Lower Danube River Administration – Galați (AFDJ), within the framework of the DISMAR project, financed under the INTERREG VI-A Romania–Bulgaria Program.
The installation of the new floating signs along the common Bulgarian–Romanian section of the river will begin later this year.
The buoys meet all modern requirements for ensuring improved visibility for the skippers. They are equipped with solar panels and AIS communication system, allowing real-time tracking through the already established information system.
The DISMAR project is a joint initiative of the river administrations of Bulgaria and Romania. Its main objective is to enhance navigation safety and information infrastructure through the establishment of an integrated marking system in the cross-border region. Within the project framework, more than 1000 new coastal signs have already been delivered, and the delivery of a non-self-propelled vessel for servicing the coastal signs is forthcoming.
