The newest vessel of the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River (EAEMDR) was officially launched. The ceremony took place at Mangalia Shipyard in Romania and marked the successful completion of the third stage of construction.
The new non-self-propelled vessel is 36 meters long and will bear the name "Timok", after one of the major tributaries of the Danube River. In this way, the Agency continues its established practice of naming newly built vessels after Danube tributaries.
"Timok", together with its sister vessel "Dismar", intended for the Lower Danube River Administration – Galați, is being constructed under the DISMAR project, financed through the INTERREG VI-A Romania–Bulgaria Programme.
The final outfitting activities for "Timok" are expected to be completed in the autumn of 2026, after which the vessel will be delivered to EAEMDR’s base in Ruse, Bulgaria. Upon its arrival, the official naming ceremony for both vessels will also take place.
The primary function of the two specialized vessels will be the installation and maintenance of coastal navigation signalization along the Danube River. Within the framework of the project, more than 2,000 coastal navigation signs and 300 floating naviagation signs (buoys) have already been delivered to the two river administrations. These will be gradually installed to improve navigation safety and conditions along the common Bulgarian–Romanian section of the river.
